“ROOM TONE”
This is a poster I designed to advertise a fictional late-night pub I created that hosts daily open mic nights for aspiring artists to get their music out there. When creating this poster, I went through several iterations before arriving at a version I was satisfied with. I initially explored a scrapbook-style concept, but found that it didn’t align with the overall vision I was aiming for, nor did it complement the logo and colour scheme I had already established.
I then experimented with incorporating musical instruments to reinforce the theme of music. However, this approach felt too focused on performance rather than capturing the idea of artists sharing their voices. I also tried a concept featuring a microphone with a cocktail napkin, but ultimately felt that the composition wasn’t visually effective.
In my final design, I shifted to a bold red background and made the title more prominent. To add dimension, I applied a stroke to both the text and the microphone, helping them stand out. I also introduced a grain texture across the entire poster to create a retro aesthetic that better reflected the atmosphere of a nighttime pub setting.
As this project was created for fun, I incorporated some external assets sourced from the internet to help bring the final composition together. Below is my mood board, sketches and ideations I created for the poster.
